The Cardboard House Bakery was established in 1982 and expanded in the early 1990’s to a retail outlet and Café to reflect the growth in Hornby Island tourism. Since then it has been a favorite destination for summer visitors and full time residents alike.
No visit to Hornby Island is complete without a stop at the Cardboard House Bakery! We bake entirely from scratch using organic flour, wholesome ingredients and genuine unsalted butter! After several years of recipe invention and experimentation we hit upon the right combination of baked goods that brings loyal clientele back time and again. Responding to our customer’s changing dietary needs we now offer a few vegan and gluten-free treats.
Our Baking
The daily baking selection includes sourdoughs, several types of whole wheat and specialty breads including organic spelt. We also make savory breakfast pastries, several kinds of croissants, sweet buns, muffins and many different squares, tarts and cookies.
For a more dazzling sweet experience our dessert case boasts cheese cakes, chocolate éclairs and our famous blueberry sour cream pie!
Lunch Menu
The lunch menu at the Bakery includes delicious savoury crêpes, panini, enchiladas as well as tasty Caesar and quinoa salads. Local produce is incorporated in the menu whenever possible.

Visit the Cardboard House Bakery and Café and stay awhile to enjoy lunch in the orchard and take a stroll through the gorgeous garden. Or if the beach is calling we are happy to package your lunch up for a picnic.
